Restrictions imposed in parts of Kathua district after violent protests at Lakanpur Toll Post | KNO

Jammu, Aug 04 (KNO): Authorities on Tuesday morning imposed restrictions in areas falling under jurisdiction of two police stations in Kathua district after violent protests broke out at newly established Toll Post at Lakhanpur leaving four people injured. "Restrictions are being imposed in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kathua and Police Station Lakhanpur," Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Shailendra Mishra told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “Stay at home and stay safe. Any gathering shall attract police action." Meanwhile, violent protests broke out in the Lakhanpur area on Monday late evening. Official sources said that on Monday late evening, few local men from Lakhanpur had verbal duel with staff of toll post against the alleged overpaying of toll and verbal duel turned into scuffle in which three local men sustained multiple injuries. "Soon after the news of injuries to local men spread in the area, people rushed to the toll post and vandalized the toll past damaging it's infrastructure,” said sources. They added that a police force rushed to the spot to calm the tempers. “Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua himself reached the spot and managed to pacify the protesters,” sources said—(KNO)
